All-Hallows

Dreams are just your brain creating memories that never happened.

Posted by All-Hallows Oct. 15, 2009 @ 4:53 PM EDT

I have vivid dreams a lot.

In a recent dream, I was a swimming teacher at the high school. My class was really hard. People could barely swim my course. Of course I flunked a few students, and one of them came to my apartment and pushed me down a spiral staircase. My body crumpled up and folded up like origami paper and I laid at the bottom, staring out between my collapsed limbs.

I'm not trying to be all hardcore or something, but I do think it's interesting how many horrible things happen.

In one of my latest dreams, there was this older man who got an electrode implanted under his nipple. I was sitting, watching a video of this with other students. There was a person sitting across from the man with a remote. He would jerk the remote like he was playing the wii and the electrode would jump from the man's chest like in those cartoons, where a toon's heart is beating. It was supposed to be torturous but the man became desensitized and he fell asleep. Then the person with the remote got angry and started really swinging the remote around, and the electrode lifted him out of his seat, moving him like a someone yanking a dog on a chain. It was awful to watch, I started to stand up and tell them to stop, but that's when the instructor turned off the tape.

In another dream, I was an actor a zombie movie in a dilapidated suite, reminiscent of the Resident Evil mansion. I was dressed in full body armor, carrying some heavy automatic weapons, with this other guy who was also playing some sort of black ops soldier. I remember being very uncomfortable because I had to pee, yet I had all this heavy costuming on and I didn't want to take all that off. I wandered around the set, trying to find the bathroom. There was ivy all over the walls and the floor was irregular crusts of marble coming out like there'd been an earthquake. Then the zombies started coming, and I started yelling that I had to pee and I wasn't ready to shoot the scene yet, but they came at me, rising and slithering like humanoid worms out from the ground. I started shooting at them, and my gun shot real bullets, not blanks. And then I realized that I was all alone and there were no cameras.

I don't watch too many horror movies. I do like the occasional flick, but nothing out of the ordinary. I'm also not obsessed with zombies or gore, or anything such as that. So this isn't a product of too many scary movies, as much a product of a brain and possibly a bit of whatever I ate that night...

Yet another dream, I was wandering around in a house. I was maybe, six or seven years old in this dream. I heard a voice coming from upstairs. I was very afraid and didn't want to go up there, but the voice kept telling me that I needed to go. I went, and met a bulbous looking white haired man, sitting in a high backed, antique green chair. His teeth were yellowing and he was smiling. He told me to have some quarters... I covered my ears. He started throwing quarters at me, and they piled up quickly. Soon I was buried in a sea of quarters and I couldn't breathe. I felt like I was going to swallow the quarters, cold and metal, and burying me alive. All this time the man was smiling at me, and I was so terrified that the quarters which covered my eyes were a relief so I wouldn't have to look at the man's face anymore.

Of course that all seems so silly when I talk about it now, but that night I woke up screaming and I couldn't fall asleep again, even though the sun hadn't come up yet.

My most recent memorable dream, I was going back and forth in time. I dreamed about someone who was in my past, which is very odd, I had lost contact with this person, and haven't thought about them in years. The oddest thing is that they told me they had a dream about me, a really weird psychedelic sort of dream, once. And that is the year I traveled back to in my dream. It really makes me wonder.

that's truly fascinating

but I disagree on your assumption that "all" dreams are fake memories

in there most basic form all dreams are fake memories but some have a purpose

some are visions of various outcomes of a situation, using your mind as an expansive arena with any possibility you mind can think off

others are more logical, in a sense something your sub conscious is trying to solve a problem your awake conscious mind cannot solve

some are just for fun ( its raining Laura Prepon clones, one of my favorites)

an example of this is "your Resident Evil dream"

your mind captures the images from the game/movie and then sequenced them in such a way as to form a problem in your sub conscious

such as
- how would I deal with such an encounter (heavy armor and large weapons)
- but with an element of dream reality (your being attacked and your are distracted by your bladder)

that is the beauty of dreams, people can say what they think or what they want to you to think about them as if they could describe you somehow but no matter what, only you can feel and experience that dream and only you can decide how you feel about it

I often have visions or premonitions about events that are happening (or going to happen) the following day

although they are obscure and generally hard to decipher they always leave me with a sense of Dejavu with some daily activities

please PM your response

Wow, the one about the old man with the quarters was really odd. I think that one will stay with me now too.

Not obviously threatening, but there is a suggestion of hidden menace, or at least danger and risk.

I used to have amazing dreams, but I hardly ever remember the ones I have these days.
